Cable Beach resort

Lianne; our Human Resources Coordinator

Minimize

I've been with Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa since 2008; and I work as a Human Resources Coordinator specialising in payroll.

When I left high school in 2001, I completed an Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management at TAFE. I did casual work in restaurants and bars whilst studying. When I'd finished my diploma, I enrolled in a Bachelor of Business in hotel and resort management at Southern Cross University in Coffs Harbour-and paid my way through the course by working as a food and beverage attendant at one of the local resorts. Part of my university degree was an internship placement with the Rydges hotel group-and this took me across the Tasman to Auckland where I spent eight months working in reservations and front office.

From there, I moved back home to Sydney with the same company. I worked as a Front Office Receptionist and worked my way up to Night Manager, and then Duty Manager. After two years of Sydney's daily grind I decided it was time for a sea change.

I’ve worked in a few different roles since joining the resort in 2008. I started working as a Front Office Duty Manager and as a Bar Attendant at the Beer & Satay Hut on my days off. After a short time, a position in the resort's human resources department became available and I jumped at the opportunity to apply because it was something I’d always wanted to do.

My current role as a Human Resources Coordinator involves recruitment and selection, workers’ compensation, superannuation, coordination of the resort's social club, training-and most importantly, the fortnightly payroll processing for all the resort’s employees. I even get to pay the General Manager! On my days off from HR, I help the concierge department with the meeting and greeting of new guests - and transfers to and from the airport.

Since the day I joined the resort, they have given me the necessary support, encouragement and training to successfully complete each of the jobs I have worked in. Training has ranged from resort orientation to responsible service of alcohol, supervisor and manager training, on-the-job training and-most excitingly-a certified snake handling course!

I'm currently completing a Masters of Human Resources Management - and hope to continue working my way up through the human resources department at the resort
