Housekeeping is one of the resort's biggest departments. It's responsible for making everything sparkle-from the guests’ rooms to the day spa and the restaurants and bars.
6:00am When the sun comes up, I'm already in the office with the air con blasting at full bore – it’s going to be another hot one!. It's my job to assign the room attendants to the rooms they are responsible for today. I chase up any guests’ requests from the night before -and action accordingly. Our keenest house person gets in at 6:30 am; always full of energy and jumping at the jobs I give him.
8:30am All the other supervisors, house persons and room attendants are now here so we have a quick briefing. We talk about any complaints, reminders about any upcoming social club events and what we are focusing on that day.
9:00am It's out of the office and into the sunshine! The main part of my job is to make sure that the guests’ rooms are up to the resort's standards. So I check all the arrival rooms before the guests arrive-and do random checks on rooms which have been serviced.
11:00am It’s lunchtime! I always have lunch in the canteen with my workmates. We plan our next weekend at the beach and look at last weekend's photos.It's always good for a laugh!
11:30am Lunch over, so it's back to work. There are still lots of arrivals left, so I work as hard as I can to get them done in time. But the phone just keeps ringing; ‘Can we have our service?’. Yes, no problem. ‘Can we have some extra towels please?’. Yes, I’ll be right along. ‘Can we order a pizza?’ Sorry, wrong number!
3:00pm Its check-in time and all of our rooms are ready. I have checked the service from every room attendant and all is good. I head back to my air-conditioned office. We have a few jobs to do because the room attendants are coming back in. Every afternoon, we work out the room attendants’ productivity, refill every chemical bottle, put all the keys away and pick up the daily reports.
4:30am Once all the room attendants are back in, it’s home time. As I drive out of the resort's gates, the camels are on their way down to the beach for one of the famous Broome camel rides. I love it here. I really am living the dream!
